Annual Inspection for Toronto Aircraft Owners — Drop Off at Muskoka, Pick Up Friday

You keep your Cessna 172 at Buttonville (CYKZ), your Cirrus SR22 at Billy Bishop (CYTZ), or your Piper Seneca at Pearson (CYYZ). Your annual inspection expires in 90 days. The GTA AMOs are booked 12 weeks out, or you have used them before and found surprise bills after they started.

Muskoka Aircraft Maintenance & Modifications Inc. (AMO #41-21) offers Toronto aircraft owners a better option: a 90-minute drive north to our hangar in Gravenhurst. Drop off Monday morning. Pick up Friday afternoon. Firm written quote before we touch your aircraft. Typical annual cost for a Cessna 172: $1,800 to $2,400.

Call 705-687-3300 to book your hangar slot. We reserve three annuals per week specifically for out-of-town owners.

Why Toronto Owners Drive to Muskoka for Annual Inspections

You have AMOs closer to home. Here is why Toronto owners choose a 90-minute drive to our hangar instead:

  • No 12-week wait. GTA AMOs are backlogged. We book annuals 6 to 8 weeks out maximum. Spring and fall: 10 weeks. Call us before your GTA shop returns your call.

  • Firm quote before you drive north. We quote over the phone based on your make, model, and total time. If we find additional discrepancies during inspection, you approve each repair in writing before we proceed. No surprise bills. No “while we were in there.”

  • Your aircraft stays inside. Our hangar has reserved bays for annuals. Your aircraft is not parked outside or moved between shops. Toronto owners drive up to find their aircraft in the same bay they dropped it in — fully inspected and signed off.

  • Transport Canada AMO #41-21 certification. Not every shop claiming to do annuals holds an AMO certificate. Transport Canada audits our processes, tools, and technician qualifications. See our Transport Canada AMO #41-21 compliance guide for what this means for your aircraft’s paperwork.

  • We find problems GTA annuals miss. In the last 12 months, we identified wing spar corrosion, cracked exhaust stacks, and worn elevator control cables on Toronto-based aircraft that passed annuals at GTA shops. Every finding includes a photo and repair cost estimate.

How We Handle Annual Inspections for Toronto Owners

We designed our process for owners driving from Toronto, Barrie, and surrounding areas. Minimal downtime. No back-and-forth driving.

Step 1: Phone quote and hangar reservation (before you drive)

Call 705-687-3300 with your make, model, total time, and any known squawks. We give you a firm base price. We reserve a hangar bay for your specific drop-off date. We email you directions from Toronto to 1006 Sabre Lane Unit 3, Gravenhurst.

Step 2: Monday morning drop-off (2 hours on-site)

You arrive between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM. We review your logbooks together. You point out any squawks you have noticed. We confirm the firm quote or adjust if new information changes scope. You leave your keys with us and drive back to Toronto. Some owners stay overnight at a local Muskoka hotel — we have recommendations.

Step 3: Inspection and repair approval (Monday to Thursday)

We perform the full annual inspection using the process detailed on our main annual inspection page. If we find discrepancies beyond the base quote, we:

  • Photograph each finding

  • Provide a repair cost estimate

  • Call or email you for approval

  • Proceed only after you say yes

Most Toronto owners receive zero to two approval calls during the week.

Step 4: Friday afternoon pick-up (1 hour on-site)

You arrive between 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM. We walk you through the inspection findings (if any). You receive:

  • Signed annual inspection checklist (TCA Form 24-0101)

  • Detailed discrepancy report with photos

  • AD compliance log update

  • Ferry permit if repairs deferred

You fly or trailer your aircraft back to Toronto.

Typical timeline for Toronto owners: One drive north, one drive south, five days total. No running back and forth for parts or approvals.

Mid-content CTA:
The hardest part of a Toronto annual is finding a shop with hangar space and a reasonable quote. We solved both. Call 705-687-3300 for a firm quote before you drive north. Or use the form on our contact page.

Annual Inspection Pricing for Toronto Aircraft Owners

Base annual inspection prices (same as our Muskoka operation — no Toronto premium):

Aircraft Type Base Price Typical Total After Minor Squawks
Cessna 150/152/172 (fixed gear) $1,800 $2,100 – $2,400
Piper Cherokee/Warrior/Archer $1,800 $2,100 – $2,400
Cirrus SR20/SR22 $2,200 $2,600 – $3,000
Cessna 177RG (retractable) $2,400 $2,800 – $3,200
Piper Arrow/Seneca (retractable) $2,400 $2,800 – $3,200
Beechcraft Bonanza $2,400 $2,800 – $3,500

What changes the price from low end to high end:

  • Low end: Under 500 hours since new, complete logbooks, owner removes interior panels before drop-off, no known squawks, based at CYKZ (closest to us).

  • Typical range: 500 to 2,000 hours, minor squawks (sticky mag switch, worn brake disc, one small corrosion spot), based anywhere in GTA.

  • High end: Over 2,000 hours, missing logbooks requiring AD research, retractable gear, turbocharged engine, based at CYTZ or CYYZ (ferry permit may be needed).

Toronto-specific travel note: We do not charge extra for Toronto owners. Your base price is the same as a Muskoka-based owner. The only difference is you drive 90 minutes instead of 5.

For fleet operators based in Toronto, see our fleet maintenance support page for volume pricing on multiple annuals.

The One Question Toronto Owners Ask Before Booking

“Is driving 90 minutes really worth it compared to using a GTA shop?”

We compared our service to three GTA AMOs based on real Toronto owner feedback. Here is the difference:

Factor GTA AMOs Muskoka Aircraft
Wait time for annual slot 8 to 12 weeks 6 to 8 weeks
Firm quote before start Rare (most estimate verbally) Yes, written
Surprise bills after inspection Common (30-50% over estimate) Zero — you approve extras
Hangar space during inspection Often parked outside Reserved bay inside
Inspection time 2 to 3 days (rush) 5 days (thorough)
Drive time from Toronto 30 to 60 minutes 90 minutes
Cost for Cessna 172 $2,200 – $3,000 $1,800 – $2,400

The math: You drive 60 extra minutes each way (2 hours total). You save $400 to $600 on average. You avoid surprise bills. Your aircraft stays inside. And you get a Transport Canada Certified AMO (#41-21) — not all GTA shops can say that.

Real Toronto owner testimonial (paraphrased from a 2024 customer):
“I used a shop at CYKZ for three years. Every annual had $800 to $1,500 in ‘unexpected’ repairs. Switched to Muskoka Aircraft. Paid exactly what David quoted. Found corrosion my GTA shop missed for three years. The drive is nothing compared to the peace of mind.”

Questions Toronto Aircraft Owners Ask About Annual Inspections

Can I drop my aircraft off on a weekend instead of Monday?

Yes, for an additional $150 weekend handling fee. Saturday drop-off between 9:00 AM and 12:00 PM. Pick-up the following Friday. Call to confirm weekend availability — limited slots.

Do you provide loaner aircraft or rental cars?

No loaner aircraft. For rental cars, Enterprise in Gravenhurst (5 minutes from our hangar) offers one-way rentals from Toronto. Book in advance. We can recommend hotels if you stay overnight.

What if my aircraft cannot fly due to a squawk?

We can arrange flatbed trailer transport from most GTA airports for an additional fee. Call with your location and aircraft type for a quote. Typical cost: $500 to $800 from CYKZ or CYTZ.

Do you work on aircraft based at Toronto City Centre (CYTZ) that are on floats?

Yes, but with special arrangements. Floatplane annuals require additional inspection time (6 days instead of 5). We can perform the inspection at CYTZ with advance approval from PortsToronto. Call to discuss — we have done this for two Cessna 185 floatplane owners based at the Island.

How do you handle AD compliance for aircraft with missing logbooks?

We research every open AD for your make and model from Transport Canada’s online database. We create a compliance log from scratch. Additional cost: $250 and 1 day. We have done this for Toronto aircraft purchased from the US with incomplete paperwork.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept e-transfer, Visa, MasterCard, and certified cheque. Payment is due at pick-up. For corporate fleet accounts, we offer net-30 invoicing after credit approval.
